A Sale With A Heart

How would you feel if you got a good bargain, every time you put in for a good cause? That was the case for some East Texans Saturday.

Shoppers found a garage sale full of unique items at the Arc House on Vine Heights in Tyler. Many products were under fifty cents. And items over 50 cents were even more popular. Shoppers found a compact washer/dryer set, lamps, a bread-maker, furniture and clothes.

A group of disabled East Texans, called The Tyler Rose Advocates, hosted the sale. The organization uses their profits to travel to their annual convention. The advocates say they usually find eager customers.

"The community cares, and the community is willing to help us do things we want to do, but haven't been able to do."

The Arc of Tyler Inc., the association for retired citizens, sponsors the advocates. When adults join the group, they're encouraged to work and take part in social activities. At their annual convention, advocates meet with other groups across the state and discuss how they can better the lives of disabled Texans.
