A small boat capsized on Lake Palestine Sunday morning with two fisherman on board, who could not get to their life jackets.
It happened around 8 a.m. on the Cherokee County side of Lake Palestine near Eagles Bluff. Game wardens say the men were pulling in a catfish when the boat started to take on water and then rolled, bottom side up.
After an hour of clinging to the boat in 50 degree water, a 42-year old from Jefferson swam a hundred yards to the shoreline. Officials say the other, a 39-year old Gladewater man, was rescued by Lake Palestine East firefighters after an Eagles Bluff woman spotted the men and called 911.
He was treated for mild hypothermia and released from the hospital.
