Over the past two days, thousands of people from South Texas and South Louisiana jammed into Longview hotels and motels trying to get a room for the night. But many were out of luck as all rooms were sold out. The Red Cross says that one-hundred ten people took shelter at Alpine Church of Christ overnight in Longview. Families, most from Louisiana, slept in the gymnasium on cots... and were furnished meals. For many it was a welcome relief just to find a place to rest for awhile. The Red Cross has closed the Alpine shelter, but the civic center in Marshall will remain open on Thursday night for people waiting out the storm.
