Lili Evacuees Flee to East Texas

Several cities in Southeast Texas and Western Louisiana have already been evacuated. Many of those people are fleeing to East Texas for safety. That means hotels all across the area are full for the next four nights.

The Noel Sisters watched television in a Tyler hotel room Wednesday morning.

"We fled early because we didn't want to get stuck in the traffic," said Monique Noel Laperouse. "Traffic was horrible last time."

Her sister, Jeanne Noel is more upset about having to leave their home. "Maybe if we were all here, and we didn't leave some of our family members over there, then it would be a little bit better."

"Over there" is Abbeyville Louisiana, and it's directly in the path of Hurricane Lili. Jeanne and Monique's sister in law, Tina sits in the hotel room also glued to the television. Tina's husband is one of those the sisters had to leave behind. "I did want to stay with him. But, he insisted that we leave because we have three children. And if it had really gotten bad, he didn't want the children to be in the middle of it."

The seven children travelling with them, aren't near as concerned. They spent the morning swimming in the hotels' pool.

With cell phones the Noels stay in contact with home, while keeping and eye on the impending storm from a safe distance.
