$452,154 was given out in grants to Texas firefighters.... and Winona Volunteer Fire Department was part of that grant.
U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison's office announced the organization received $91,104 from the grant to improve overall preparedness and first response capabilities.
According to the Department of Homeland Security the funding can be used to purchase vehicles, train and equip firefighters and provide health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
The rest of the funds were given to the Buffalo and Spuger Volunteer Fire Departments.
