Employer Cutbacks

Dana Corporation and Eastman Chemical company have already announced layoffs this year  and more could come.

Today, Eastman announced they will be reducing $100 million in costs next year.

Dana Corporation will be stopping production of GM parts from December 23rd until February 23rd.

"For people who are either being laid off or have lost their job because of the economic down turn it's a depression for them, but relatively speaking we have more people employed today than we've ever had here in Longview," said John Stroud, Executive Director of Longview Economic Development Corporation.

Dana Corporation said General Motors is cutting back on production, so between 250 to 300 employees will not return to work from their holiday break until late February.

Dana officials say employees will be eligible to file for unemployment during that time.
