Battle Continues Between Cable Companies, NFL Network

This weekend the Cowboys play Baltimore in a game they must win to guarantee a playoff spot.

But thousands of East Texas fans, will not be able to see the game. For another year, Suddenlink Cable in Tyler and Longview-Kilgore Cable do not provide the NFL Network. Some area satellite companies, like DISH Network, do provide the channel.

Suddenlink officials said they negotiated and made proposals, but claim the NFL Network wanted $100 million and the cable company would not budge.

"That's a huge outlay of cash," said Skip Ogle, Suddenlinks Director of Community and Government Relations. "That would certainly filter down to our customers. So we try to keep those prices as low and as fair as we can."

KLTV 7 Sports spoke with the Corporation Communications Director for the NFL Network, Don Masonson. In a statement he said ''We understand that some fans who want NFL Network have been denied access or charged extra by their cable operators. More than 240 cable companies, satellite providers and telephone companies provide NFL Network to their subscribers at no extra cost."

"We have been trying for months to negotiate with these large cable operators to be carried on a level of service available to as many fans as possible. We continue to believe that agreements are possible if the cable providers would come to the negotiating table.''

With the smallest enrollment in District 17-5A, and really across the entire classification, Lindale could use that as an excuse for a sub-par season. But under defensive coordinator, turned head coach Chris Cochran, that won't be the case.
