Wildcats enjoying the best season ever

Let's examine the season for Sulphur Springs.

Avenge last year's playoff loss to Whitehouse? Check.

Play and win a nationally televised game on ESPN? Got it.

Play at Texas Stadium? They did that, three times in fact.

Now it's time for the cherry on top of the sundae, the team's first ever trip to state.

"It's a dream come true," Wildcats receiver Jace Jackson said. "During the offseason, that's all we thought about, could we come out and get to state."

"Man, we feel like celebrities right now, " cornerback Darrell Franklin said. "Everybody knows you, they greet you, it's pretty crazy."

This trip isn't just for the team, Wildcats fans are making their reservations for the Alamodome too, and celebrating the best season ever.

"We're talking about it at home, talking about it at work," Wildcats fan Scott brown said, "we're talking about it at Wal-Mart. It's everywhere. We've had plant meetings all day, and there's more about football than there is about what's going on at the plant."

"I've always joked around and said ‘Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat,'" fan and former player Tim Clark said. "We feel like we're part of the team too."

The fans appreciate how big this season has been, but the Wildcats haven't stopped to think about it yet.

"We really can't enjoy what we've accomplished this year," Franklin said. "We've set our goal to win a state championship. I think when it's all over and we've won, we'll be able to enjoy it then."

Jackson is back for Lufkin.Jackson is back for Lufkin.

Like Longview, Lufkin is always talented. Before the Panthers begin District 12-6A action, they'll play a loaded East Texas schedule featuring the Lobos in week 1, followed by Nacogdoches and John Tyler. Normally a 7 and 4 campaign would be considered a success, but not in Panther nation. In fact, despite making the playoffs every year, Lufkin hasn't advanced past the first round since 2012.
