Lufkin man accidentally shoots, kills wife while hunting

An East Texas man accidentally shot and killed his wife while deer hunting on November 30th, according to Angelina County Game Warden Captain Phillips.

Delbert and Donna Smith of Lufkin were hunting at the Woodlake Hunting Club in Trinity County when the accident happened. Delbert was showing a hunting rifle to another hunter in the backseat of a truck when the gun discharged and the bullet went through the truck and struck Donna, who was standing outside the truck, in the stomach area. The safety was not on the gun at the time of the accident.

Donna later died at a local hospital.
