MINISTERS GET WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING ON FAITH-BASED INITIATIVE

About 100 mostly-black ministers were at the White House yesterday for an update on the faith-based initiative. Pentecostal Bishop Carlton Pearson says Senate Democrats' opposition makes passage of the legislation unlikely this year. He says they were briefed by Jim Towey (TOO'-ee), who heads the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. Pearson says Christian historian David Barton led the ministers on a tour of Washington -- pointing out the rich contribution that blacks have made to American government.
