It's hard to believe, but over the course of our country's history books like Huckleberry Finn, The Wizard of Oz and Little Red Riding Hood were banned from schools and libraries. And that's the focus of a celebration of reading this week across the country. The last week of September is Banned Book Week, sponsored by American Booksellers Association and the Foundation for Free Expression. Libraries and bookstores in Longview have joined with displays on books that have been banned or threatened in our history, encouraging people to read. The purpose is to remind us not to take this freedom for granted.
