A group of American schoolchildren has been evacuated from a school in West Africa's war torn Ivory Coast. The children waved U-S flags as they left the International Christian Academy under French escort. The convoy of cars then headed for an area where U-S special forces and transport planes awaited. The children were rescued after a night of sporadic gunfire outside. About 100 American children ages five to 18 attend the mission boarding school, for sons and daughters of missionaries based across Africa. The staff of 40 is also mostly American.
