About 250 troopers, deputies and other investigators are searching Newton County for a male suspect Friday. That's after his truck dragged a game warden for about 100 feet during a road stop on a highway near Newton.

Newton County Sheriff Joe Walker says the warden was able to open fire on the truck after becoming dislodged from the truck. He was airlifted to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, where he's in stable condition and expected to recover.

Walker says the suspect extended-cab pickup truck was found abandoned about 1 1/2 hours after the 9:30 p.m. Thursday incident on Loop 505, just south of Newton. He's withholding the game warden's identity until his relatives can be notified.
