Bud Frye can look back on a lifetime of basketball triumphs, including his Indiana High School State Championship and a record-setting championship at Louisiana Tech, but the biggest triumph of all came at the age of 70 when his Team USA 70's Division won the World Championship. Ironically, it was a heart attack and a miracle that led to the World Championship.
In 2005, Frye was playing basketball with a team of doctors at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler. Frye suffered a full cardiac arrest, but thanks to the quick action of his team mates doctors and the emergency ambulance team, Frye was revived. He came to at the very moment his team mates were standing in a circle praying for him. After his rehabilitation, Frye worked so hard at conditioning that his basketball improved and he was asked to play on Team USA, 70's Division, winning the world championship in 2007.
