Debate Continues Over Nichols Resevoir

Debate continues over a state proposal to build a dam and lake off the Sulphur River. The project is called the Marvin Nichols Resevoir and Dam.

Eighty percent of the dam's water would be used to service the Dallas Metroplex. The rest would stay in East Texas.

Residents and businesses living near the river could lose their property if the plan goes through. On the other hand, those for the project believe a new lake would bring more tourists to the area.

The Northeast Texas Regional Water Planning Group will hold a meeting this week to decide if more studies need to be completed before the state considers the project.

A meeting will be held at the Gilmer Civic Center, Wednesday at 2 p.m. The hearing is open to the public.
