Bets high as $1K in dogfighting ring, police say

Authorities say a broken-up dogfighting ring in Texas drew crowds of 100 people and attracted bets as high as $1,000.

Nearly 200 dogs have been seized, eight people arrested and 47 others indicted since officials in Houston this week announced busting 1 of the country's largest dogfighting operations.

Authorities say organizers kept detailed journals of fights and used crates used to ship dogs to countries in Latin America.

Animal welfare groups are taking care of most of the seized dogs. A judge will decide the fate of the animals, but authorities say most of the dogs could be euthanized.
