Another Back-Door Bandit Strikes

Just when Tyler residents thought they were safe from the backdoor burglar, another Tyler home is burglarized.

The latest incident happened Friday morning on the 1100 block of South College Street.

Around 3 a.m., an intruder busted through a home's back-door. At the time, two of four residents were asleep inside.

The culprit cased all the rooms and headed toward a woman's bedroom.

"There was a dark figure leaning over my bed picking up my purse," she said Monday morning. "I just turned over and said, 'What are you doing?' and he took off running."

The room was so dark the witness was unable to give police a description of the suspect.

It's the first burglary case since Lawrence Madlock and wife Penny Green were arrested in July. Madlock and Green have been linked to at least 19 "smash and grab" burglaries, according to Tyler Police Department. Both are still in jail.

Investigators have no way of knowing whether the latest burglar is tied to Madlock or not, says Office Chris Moore with Tyler Police Department.

But his method of operation is slightly different, he says. Madlock made his escape within seconds, whereas this burglar took his time.

He made off with a purse, some cash and a checkbook.

The home's residents have decided to set up a security system and install a metal door.
