Dana Corp future unclear as 5,000 job cuts announced

Hundreds of East Texas plant workers are waiting to hear whether they will stay on the job at a Longview manufacturing plant.

Dana Corp's corporate office announced yesterday that they expected to close several of their plants and cut about 5,000 jobs over the next 2 years. In August, sluggish auto sales caused the company to announce 200 job cuts at the Longview plant. The company's future depends on whether auto makes can rebound from slumping sales.

"The auto makers are not producing nearly the quantity of vehicles everybody expected.

23:07:56 when they shut down their plants we shut down ours.

12:23:50 what we all need , auto makers and suppliers alike is we need an economic rebound, I don't think it's a question anymore of whether we're in a recession we seem to be in a recession.

its based solely on the automotive industry and what happens in the automotive industry as the number of trucks and cars go down the demand for frames will go down.>
