Turnout 59% in Texas

Turnout for this week's general election in Texas was 59%.

The secretary of state's office says that works out to a little more than eight million voters casting ballots.

Election officials had projected turnout of the state's more than 13.5 million registered voters could run as high as 68%.

The 2004 general election in Texas saw turnout of 56% -- with about 7.4 million voters.
