Arson ruled after four new condos destroyed

A Saturday morning fire in Tyler that destroyed some newly constructed condominiums has been ruled as arson.

The fire originally broke out on Cumberland Road just across from Faulkner Park in south Tyler.  Four condos in the Hamilton Commons Condominium caught fire sometime after 3:00 a.m. Saturday.  The Tyler Fire Department was called to the scene and quickly called for more help. Five engines wound up responding to the fire.

"First in units arrived to find that the structure had already completely collapsed. A second alarm was called to make sure we could save exposed other structures nearby," said Laura Mason, a deputy fire marshal for the Tyler Police Department. .

Fire investigators are now reviewing surveillance tapes from the building. So far, no suspects have been named.
