Tyler Lee students stage their own presidential debate

Presidential debating, East Texas style.

Some Robert E. Lee students in Tyler spent 8 weeks preparing for their mock presidential debate. So - a question: What do you think about the war in Iraq?

"A great American leader once said, 'I believe the most solemn duty for the American president is to protect the American people. If America shows uncertainty and weakness in this decade the world will drift towards tragedy. This will not happen on my watch.' I say not on my watch either," said Chris Micheals, playing the part of John McCain.

"Six years ago, I opposed this war, because I said that not only did we not know how much it was going to cost, but what our existing strategy might be, how it would affect our relationships around the world and whether our actions were sound. We did not use our military wisely in Iraq," said Corme McNeal as Barack Obama.

The students represented six presidential campaigns, and for many of the seniors, this election will be their first chance to go to the voting booth.
