Naples Police Department Resigns

Some residents of an East Texas city have lost their entire police department. The only two officers for the city of Naples walked out when restrictions were put on their comp and overtime. Naples is just north of Dangerfield in Morris County.

The pay restrictions were imposed after a federal grant, helping to fund the department, ran out. The former police chief Fred Gruver says the final straw came when city officials offered their suggestion for raising more revenue, writing more traffic citations. Gruver has applied to the Longview police department and the other officer is already employed in McKinney.
