Tyler ISD officials, parents meet about combining campuses

A proposed new, larger campus for both Jones elementary students and special needs students from the St. Louis school - in other words, two schools, one campus.

Tyler school officials met with parents last night to discuss any concerns....

Superintendent Randy Reid says there would be tight enforcement of security and separation of those students who cannot interact with younger students.

He says there would be benefits for all students if the schools came together.

"I think any time you have children who have differences come together and you have success with that I think that really tends to build strong relationships and is a great cap for their education. When our children leave us and go out into the working world they're going to be working with all kinds of children, so anything we can do to prepare them for that I think is a plus," said Dr. Reid.

The proposed campus does all depend on whether the Tyler school bond passes in next Tuesday's election.
