Bullard and Gladewater meet in hunt for the playoffs

Things are exciting in Gladewater and Bullard. In District 17-3A, it seems like playoff spots are on the line already. Bullard beat State Finalist Tatum last week to draw their district record even, in a big win for a team still dreaming of the playoffs.

"It was a good victory," Bullard wide receiver Daniel Howard said. "It gives us momentum heading into this game."

"Felt good, it was a big win for us," Bullard quarterback Charlie Moore said. "It give sus a lot of confidence for this game."

The Gladewater Bears were a three-win team last year, but they're already better than that in 2008. The Bears are enjoying the ride.

"We were hoping it would come together," Gladewater running back Terrence Leach said. "It has, we've come a long way."

"It feels good," Gladewater defensive tackle Brandon Walton said.

With both teams at one and one in the district, this week is crucial. For two teams looking to make a grand return to the playoffs, the common thought is that every week is a playoff game.

"It makes every game important, and this one even more," Gladewater running back Cardarian Lewis said. "It's like a playoff spot."

"Everybody in this district is a good team," Moore said. "Anything can happen."

"We consider this to be our first playoff game," Gladewater quarterback Dalton Waters said. "It's not week eleven, but we're going to treat it as if it is."

Gladewater's been out of the postseason for two years, Bullard hasn't been there since 1993. Both teams see this year as a big opportunity to turn things around.

"It would mean a lot," Moore said. "For me, and the team, and the community. It would be a pretty big deal."

"We're going to play them like there's no tomorrow," Leach said.
