Tyler's Norris To Compete for Title of World's Best Shooter

It is not a common past time but once B.J. Norris saw an outdoor sports program about practical shooting, well,  you could say since then, he's been on target.

"It gets the adrenaline going," Norris said. "It's just a lot of fun."

For the past nine years, 19-year-old B.J. has competed across the country. Now he aims to be the best at the International Practical Shooting Confederation's World Shoot in Bali, Indonesia.

The international championships are held every three years, with 900 shooters representing 50 nations. B.J. competed on his own at the last championships in Ecuador. This time he will compete as a member of team USA.

"I train mentally more than I do physically," Norris said. "This will be my second World Shoot that I've competed in physically but it will be about my thousandth that I've competed in mentally."

B.J. will compete in the men's open division, gunning for the title of world's best shooter.

"It's 36 different stages over six days," he explained. "It's a very long match. It takes a lot of mental preparation and a lot of physical preparation."

"It's freestyle which means everybody can shoot however they want to shoot as long as they get the proper number of rounds on each target. Then it's their challenge to solve."

B.J. is also a member of the Smith & Wesson shooting team. His peers said he is one of the best in the world. Now, he has a shot at making the title official.

"It's an incredible feeling, an incredible honor," he said.

The World Shoot will be Sunday through November 2nd.
