KLTV 7's Bob Hallmark goes scavenging at the Highway 80 garage sale

It's a bargain hunter's dream.

The annual Highway 80 garage sale is a 3 day event, with roadside vendors from Mesquite all the way to Vicksburg, Mississippi. That's nearly 400 miles of highway with a treasure to be found at any stop. And to prove it, we sent KLTV 7's Bob Hallmark out on a scavenger hunt with a list of unusual items. Let's see if he found everything.

The signs on Highway 80 say it all, as people are out looking for bargains.

"Just exciting getting out visiting with people communicating with people like me that's looking for stuff on a bargain," said Cindy Newman, a Longview shopper.

The crack staff at KLTV 7 News came up with a list of odd items for me to find.

Green rhinestone jewelry, an ugly tie, a toaster, Michael Jackson's Thriller album, and a book with a shirtless man...for some reason.

And a bonus item - a lady leg lamp.

That's this. So, I hit the road to try and find it all.

"Maybe somebody comes in and their and they're not even looking for an item and it catches their eye and its just an impulse buy," said Gene Martin of the Greggton Antique Mall.

"Green rhinestone jewelry," - we got that.

"I'm looking for a book with a shirtless man on the cover?"

I should be more careful about how I say that.

"Here's your tie!"

"What every shoppers looking for - toilets."

"A silver pop-up toaster, I think this qualifies."

Twice.

"Hi, do you have a book with a shirtless man on the cover?"

3 out of 5 on the list, but no bonus for the lady leg-lamp - thank goodness - happy shopping!

The Highway 80 garage sale continues from sun-up to sundown Saturday and Sunday. Lady's leg lamps are apparently not included.
