Tyler's MDA Telethon a Success

For millions of Americans, Labor Day means telethon.

This weekend, volunteers at the Broadway Square Mall answered telephones and took pledges for the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon. East Texans donated more than 430 thousand dollars hundreds to the MDA in just under 24 hours.

For more than 30 years, KLTV has been a part of the telethon, raising money for treatment, research, and MDA Camp for children with muscular dystrophy.

Channel 7 Meteorologist Mark Scirto says he loves meeting the children the telethon helps every year.

"To help kids get their wheel chairs, to help them get their braces for their legs and all the things that they need. You know, they don't need to go to camp, they want to go to camp like every other child does. And by having the telethon today, we make that happen. And everybody in East Texas makes that happen."
