Today I want to speak with you about a pair of behavioral contrasts. You, no doubt, are aware of the recent poor decision by the Nacogdoches cheerleading squad performing a mock execution during a pep rally.
One cheerleader's mom explained that there was no malicious intent. Now contrast that pep rally with the behavior of the Celina football team during a recent game against Whitehouse. A Whitehouse fan wrote a note to Celina High School containing the following observations - "the Celina fans cheering just as loud as the cheerleaders at times, the team marching on and off the field in unity behind their flag bearer, the way their boys knocked the heck out of someone and then offered a pat on the back after the play was over, the way they huddled in prayer when a guy was injured.
Overall the brand of football demonstrated by Celina was one that many programs, should take note of." A story of contrasts - perhaps we as parents and teachers need to be reminded that our children are inspired by and take note of our example.
These two groups of students learned these behaviors somewhere and when we realize that we are all role models for the young people around us, we will inspire our children to make this a Better East Texas.
