Trooper dragged 600 feet down East Texas highway

A Texas DPS trooper was able to arrest two suspect after being dragged 610 feet. It happened on US Highway 79 four miles east of Henderson.

Trooper Jeremy Fountain pulled over a vehicle Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 pm for speeding.

According to DPS PIO officer Jean Dark, the driver did not have a licence and was asked to get out of the vehicle. As Trooper Fountain radioed in the information, the driver, Gabriel Lewis of Henderson, fled back to the driver's seat of his car.  Trooper Fountain followed on foot and was able to lunge through the window grabbing the driver.

Trooper Dark says that's when Lewis took off, dragging Trooper Fountain more than 600 feet. He was eventually able to pulled his weapon and told Lewis to stop. At that point Lewis cooperated, and was arrested.  The passenger, Derek Lewis of Carthage and the cousin of Gabriel cooperated with Trooper Fountain.

Four units from the Henderson Police Department responded in an effort to assist Trooper Fountain.

Gabriel and Derek Lewis are currently booked at the Rusk County Jail.
