Church Members Volunteer To Provide Medical Care

Members of an East Texas church volunteer their skills and services Saturday to give medical care to those in need.

Nurses, doctors, and dentists from "Grace Community Church" volunteered Saturday morning at "Bethesda Clinic" in Tyler. They provided care to some 50 uninsured East Texans.

Organizers say with these tough economic times, one of the first things people have to cut is their medical care.

"All of our patients are working uninsured so the economic crisis probably hits more people that have money in the stock market and stuff," said executive director John English.  "Our folks have had economic crisis for a long time so this is just a little bit more challenging for them."

"They pay a small co-pay but they're getting some great medical treatment by some volunteer doctors and nurses that were willing to jump in and serve on this Saturday morning," said coordinator Brian Brandt.

Grace Community is not the only church to roundup volunteers for the clinic. Next Saturday, Green Acres Baptist Church will have volunteers there working as well.
