Longtime Longview K9 officer dies

The Longview Police Department is celebrating the life and accomplishments of an accomplished and longtime K9 officer.

Ozzo, a German Shepherd who had been a Longview K9 officer unitl retiring in 2004, passed away on Wednesday.

During his time of service, Ozzo was credited with 34 felony arrests and 18 misdemeanors, and is also credited with numerous police drug seizures.

"We're very sentimental about our dogs, they're so involved in so many cases and so many different significant events they're like another officer so we rely on them quite a bit, they stay very near and dear to our hearts, when we lose one its like losing another officer we really appreciate having them around," said Officer Kevin Brownlee.

The Longview Police Department currently has three K9s in service, one on each of the department's three shifts.
