AG's office says commissioners must release information on jail plan

Today, the Texas Attorney General released a letter stating that the Smith County Commissioners are to release any information to the public on any meetings or plans regarding the Smith County Jail bond that may not yet be public information within the next ten days.

The 'What Part Of No Don't You Understand Committee,' who opposes the current jail plan, has alleged that "secret" meetings have gone on between commissioners regarding the bond, which will be on the ballot in November. "I was very concerned that if the Commissioners Court was allowed to develop this plan in secret then they could do essentially anything in secret," said Ken Good, a member of the No Committee. He says he brought those concerns to the attention of the Attorney General's office in July of this year.

The Attorney General released the opinion this morning.
