Jail bond supporters plan town hall forum

Bobby Curtis and Herbert Buie , the co-chairs of the 'Finally! A Jail Plan We Can Afford' committee that supports the Smith County Jail bond that will be on the ballot in November, announced today that they will host a town hall style forum on Monday, October 13th at 6 PM to talk to the public about the reasons they support passage of the jail bond proposal.

It will be held at the Tyler Public Library Auditorium at 201 South College in Tyler.

Sheriff J. B. Smith will make a presentation and answer questions on behalf of the jail bond.

Spokesman Bobby Curtis said they are inviting a representative from the committee opposing the jail bond to participate in the forum by presenting its opposing views and taking questions from the audience.

"We ask citizens to attend this meeting to get the facts on this common-sense, no-frills jail plan.  It is a sound, responsible plan -- the kind of plan the people have been asking for," said Bobby Curtis.

"As the Sheriff of this county, I want to make myself available to the public to answer questions on the need for this jail expansion and why I support this bond proposal," said Sheriff JB Smith.
