Tyler Student Suspended After Violent Outburst

A Tyler sixth grader is suspended for threatening his teacher and classmates with a baseball bat and hedge trimmer. It happened Tuesday afternoon at Hubbard Middle School.

A TISD spokesperson says the student brought his cat to class and got upset when the teacher took it away and sent him home. The boy returned to school with a baseball bat and a hedge trimmer, and threatened the entire class with the objects.

The teacher moved her students to a closet inside the room, while faculty confronted the boy in the hallway. He was removed from campus and suspended. TISD sent a letter out to parents informing them of the incident.

As of Wednesday morning, the student was at home with a parent, according to Officer Chris Moore with the Tyler Police Department.

The district attorney's office will decide if he faces misdemeanor or felony charges.
