Gladewater road so dangerous residents worry about the worst happening

Residents of one Gladewater neighborhood are pleading with city and county officials to do something about a dangerous stretch of road before tragedy strikes.

Residents who live along Lockerplant Road on Highway 80 in Gladewater say a dangerous trench lies just off the roadside that could be a potential death-trap.

For years residents have traveled the narrow road and say there are no guardrails or warnings about the trench, that plunges some 30 feet at spots.

With a blind curve, no shoulder, and high truck traffic in the area, residents worry about the worst happening.

"Getting run off the road with my grandbaby in the vehicle with me and not being found my vehicle not being able to be seen by no one," said Shirley Simmons, who lives on Lockerplant Road.

"It was probably about two years ago a lady was delivering meals on wheels for my neighbor and she went off into it," said Dorothy Nixon.

We spoke with Gladewater City officials today who told us they were not notified of the problem, but would have crews access the roadway and possible safety improvements on it by Monday.
