Update: Student who brought gun to Kilgore High School expelled

An east Texas teenager who brought a gun to school has been expelled from Kilgore High School during a meeting of school officials today. The vote was unanimous.

Neither the juvenile nor his parents were at the meeting.

"We're serious about the rules that we have to follow and we're talking about guns and weapons on campus. It's not something that we're going to take lightly regardless of who the student is or how well they've done in school or anything else that doesn't matter. We're going to take everyone of them serious and we're going to give them that same punishment and I think that's what our board has done today," said Kilgore ISD Superintendent Jody Clements.

Kilgore High School officials discovered the gun on Friday after a tip from another student that the loaded .22 handgun was located in the ceiling of the boys' bathroom.

The student is in juvenile detention, and a hearing is scheduled for Monday to determine his status.
