PGA Champ Trevino Offers Longview Kids Golfing Tips

In Longview on Monday afternoon, kids and adults got some useful tips on how to improve their golf game from one of the sports legends.

PGA champion Lee Trevino held a clinic as part of the First Tee Golf Tournament.

Trevino won the 1971 British Open and U.S. Open over Jack Nicklaus.

Dozens of Longview school children attended Monday's clinic with the First Tee Program. The organization provides children of all backgrounds with the chance to learn golf.

"The PGA 10 years ago was very instrumental to getting all the pros and everybody to start a First Tee Program," Trevino told KLTV 7 Sports.  "This is what this is for. This is for underprivileged kids who would like to pursue a career in golf to learn the game and possibly be the next Tiger Woods."

When asked about the children's eagerness to learn the game of golf, Trevino smiled.

"I think it's wonderful but I think it's even better what these grownups that are volunteering their time spending it with those kids, they don't have to do this. I think it's fantastic"
