Operation Baking Gals provides sweet treats to our troops

She's an east Texas baker on a mission for our hard working troops.

Today, KLTV 7's LaKecia Shockley talks shows you how one sweet tooth baker is putting her skills to the test and hopes you will too.

She's shaking it, stirring it up, and baking it.

With 30 years baking experience, whipping up a batch of goodies for Pam Phillips isn't all that hard.

"This is...the best part of the brownie. We'll just give the guys and girls just a little different taste," said Phillips.

Pam and her best friend Trudy are baking up treats to send to troops fighting overseas.

Their group is called Operation Baking Gals, and it's nationwide.

"It started actually in Virginia. The young lady was sending some cookies to her brother overseas and he says you know can you send just a few extra because I have to share with everybody."

"She just put it out there on the Internet...and it snowballed from there," said Phillips.

"Every month you get a different soldier to send the goodies to. It's like Christmas for a whole week with them."

On the website, bakers can sign up to send troops baked goods, and for Pam, she's hoping other east Texans will join their group to give troops as sweet surprise.

"I just can't imagine being over there without having the home cooked foods that we do have here. I want to get an East Texas team started. We're so friendly I just want to give a little back and just let them know, hey here in Texas we're thinking about you."

A sweet thought for troops that they so deserve.
