Beating odds at Sports Fest

It was all fun and games on Lake Gladewater Saturday, as hundreds of East Texans suited up for Sports Fest.  East Texans of all ages with disabilities put their minds to the task despite their physical limitations.  From hand-cycling to kayaking participants were doing it all.  The outdoor water sports event was put on by Power Incorporated.  The goal of Power Inc. is to help build self esteem and confidence among East Texans with disabilities.

"We see people doing things they've never done and getting excited and getting a new found meaning of life," said Power Team Director Chris Alford.  "Where they thought they couldn't do things, they found that even if you're in a wheel chair you can go water skiing. People didn't think you could do that."  Professional service providers traveled from as far as Galveston to help with Sports Fest.  Sports Fest participants also enjoyed petting small animals at the petting zoo and fishing from the lakefront pier.
