County Authorities Work with Tyler Police on Rape Cases

Smith County authorities are comparing two recent rape cases to a sexual assault in Tyler last year. The most recent case happened this week in Bullard.

Another was reported in the Flint-Gresham area two months ago. Tyler police say they're working with county authorities to determine if those two attacks were committed by the same man responsible for an attack in Tyler last year.

Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith says in all three cases, the unknown man's actions were similar.

"The rapist knew the name of his victim,," Sheriff Smith said Thursday. "Also on three occasions, it was not a forced entry, the rapist entered through an unlocked door."

The suspect also said similar things to each of his victims and knew them by name. Authorities are waiting for DNA test results to see if the cases are linked.
