Take A Soldier Fishing This Weekend

This weekend, the military will be honored in a unique event, held for the first time in East Texas.

It's called Take A Soldier Fishing.

"We thought we would like to take the opportunity to thank our soldiers," said John Holland with the Lindale B.A.S.S. Club. "Thank all the men and women that fight for us on daily basis and allow them a fun day on the water. Give them the opportunity to come out and enjoy some of the freedoms we receive on a daily basis."

Take A Soldier Fishing will be held this Saturday, September 27, from 6:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Lake Fork Marina.

Lodging, dinner on Friday (fish fry), and lunch Saturday will be provided for all military participants. This event is free to service members with a current military I.D. Prizes will be awarded for big bass over the slot, big bass under the slot, big stringer of bass, smallest bass, biggest crappie, and biggest catfish.

Organizers say they have a full list of soldiers signed up, but they still need a handful of boaters.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
