Local food banks trying to restock with your help after shelves are emptied by Ike

As Hurricane Ike evacuees head back home, some east Texas food pantries who helped feed those evacuees are today finding themselves in need.

One of those food banks is Henderson Interchurch Ministry. Volunteers tell us they gave away so much food that now their shelves are almost empty. The food bank says they're in dire need of all types of food.

"We need food desperately, we need all kinds of food. We need canned goods. We need staples such as sugar, flower, rice, beans," said Betsy Jarvis. "Our biggest fear is that we won't have food to feed our community."

If you would like to help Henderson Interchurch Ministries, you can drop off canned goods at their office at 108 North Marshall Avenue.
