Lake Tyler hosts first triathlon

Today was the first annual Rose City Triathlon at Lake Tyler. More than two hundred contestants came out for the competition, they ranged from eight years old to sixty-five and came from all over. The event benefitted Hospice of East Texas and the Whitehouse Fire Department, and since this was the first race, organizers jokingly say they took it easy on them.

"This is a short distance race," organizer Steve Farris said. "Some people say it's a long ways, but this is the shortest type or triathlon. The Iron Man is of course the longest. This is a six-hundred-and-fifty-meter swim, a fourteen mile bike, and a 5K run."
