ETMC expanding; adding two stories

You may have noticed the giant crane outside East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. That's because the hospital is growing - ETMC says the $21 million expansion project is in response to increased patient care needs.

The expansion will add two stories to the north tower of the hospital, which will reduce congestion in the level one trauma center.

Not only will it add around 530 beds, but 100 new jobs.

"I'm really pleased with how this building looks and the addition what it will mean to your campus, said CEO and President Elmer G. Ellis of ETMC Regional Healthcare System. "Our people are delighted to see that you are prospering and building for the future, so we are pleased to be here and be able to do that."

The expansion project as a whole is estimated to be complete in January 2010.
