Meals on Wheels serves double amount of normal meals today

One east Texas non-profit agency is cooking twice as many meals today to help feed evacuees. Meals On Wheels started making food for our shelters around 5 o'clock this morning.

Employees are working around the clock to make sure no one goes hungry. Using its vans, Meals On Wheels distributed the meals today to 15 shelters around east Texas.

"We have a kitchen where we can do probably 6,000 meals a day. We normally do about 3,400 meals for the seniors, but the other thing is we had food on hand. We had food on hand for next week, so we are using food that we were going to use next week, and we will re-order and get that food back in," said Mike Powell, the executive director of Meals on Wheels.

Meals on Wheels cooked 3,400 today for evacuees.
