Highland Pines brunch held today to honor 9/11 victims, veterans

In east Texas, a rememberance in Longview honored the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

More than fifty people including soldiers and first responders attended a 9-11 brunch memorial Thursday morning.

County leaders shared their thoughts on the sacrifices that first responders made that day. But as they told KLTV 7, first responders aren't the only that should be praised.

"It's also important to remember not only the law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS, the people that died at 9-11; but it's where we are today. It's the veterans that preserved our peace so that we live in a free America," said Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano.

Several veterans were also honored for their service for our country at the ceremony.
