Tyler's Festival on the Square canceled ahead of Ike

Tyler's Festival on the Square has been cancelled due to Hurricane Ike, KLTV 7 News has learned Thursday afternoon.

Due to a weather forecast that currently puts the Tyler area in the direct path of Hurricane Ike as well as a community that is preparing to receive evacuees as a result of that storm, all activities scheduled to occur during Saturday's Festival On The Square celebration have been cancelled.

"The decision to cancel the festival was extremely difficult," explained Beverly Abell, Executive Director of Heart of Tyler Main Street.  "The Festival is the primary fundraiser for Heart of Tyler Main Street. With more arts, crafts, food vendors and public art projects than we've had in years past, we had a terrific slate of free daytime activities planned. Plus, we had an evening full of excellent Texas entertainment scheduled for those that enjoy the evening concert festivities."

"Heart of Tyler Main Street does plan to host an alternate downtown celebration later in the fall to help recoup the expenses that were incurred," said Abell. "As a non-profit organization, incurring the entire expense of rescheduling is not an option.  Those in the community that wish to help defray the cost of the expenses incurred for the cancelled event can assist by making a donation or becoming a member of the Heart of Tyler Main Street.

Requests for refunds for tickets purchased for the evening concert will be honored. Those seeking a refund should return to the venue of purchase to make the refund request no later than close of business on Friday, September 19th.
