Longview mission director retiring to open Tyler mission

A Longview mission director is moving on to another east Texas city for a new challenge in another effort to help the homeless.

With friends and co-workers on hand today, Tony Chung officially resigned as director of the Highway 80 rescue mission.

Chung took over the mission in 2002, and is credited with creating new outreach programs and training programs to help homeless men rebuild their lives, as well as organizing fund-raising to build new dorm facilities and a new chapel for the mission.

"I'm going to remember that whosoever walks through our door, they're going to get help here it doesn't matter who they are, what they are or anything," said Chung.

Chung will move on to a new mission being set up in Tyler to help homeless men. He'll continue to run the day to day operations of the Highway 80 mission until a new director is named.

He expects to open the doors on his new Tyler mission on Glenwood Street by the end of October.
