ANGELETON, Texas (AP) - Brazoria County has called for the mandatory evacuation of about 15,000 residents in advance of Hurricane Ike, but the top emergency official says everyone in the county should leave.
Emergency management coordinator Doc Adams on Wednesday said anyone who decides to stay will find that during the storm there will be times when they're "absolutely on their own."
A voluntary evacuation order had been issued for the county, but Adams urged all residents to leave because the current forecast called for tides up to 10 feet and winds up to 60 miles per hour.
Adams says 50 buses were being brought in to help evacuate special needs residents.
