A man dedicated to serving East Texas, is being remembered today, This afternoon the Mayor of Rusk, Emmett Whitehead, passed away after a long battle with lung cancer.
Whitehead spent much of his life giving his time and services to East Texas.
Whitehead served as mayor for the past 14 years.
He was a longtime publisher and started 2 radio stations.
He also served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives for eight years.
A World War II Vet, he dedicated his time to hospitals and helped establish the Texas State Railroad.
Funeral for Rusk Mayor Emmett H. Whitehead will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug.
17 at the First United Methodist Church in Rusk with the Rev. Charles
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Whitehead
